New Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS) Several street vendors’ associations have come together to protest Thursday against the eviction of hundreds of hawkers and street vendors ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), along with few other street vendors’ and hawkers’ unions, will join hands with human rights groups and stage a sit-in near Jantar Mantar in central Delhi Sep 30.
‘We need a proper resettlement from the Delhi government as we have lost our livelihood till the Games get over,’ said an NASVI member.
‘By this strike we are highlighting our problems and we are demanding proper resettlement,’ NASVI member told IANS.
The Municipal Coporation of Delhi (MCD) has evicted hundreds of street vendors from various parts of the city, especially central Delhi and near Games venues.
