Ambala, Sep 24 (Inditop.com) A team of experts began its probe into the oil spill in two schools in Haryana’s Ambala Cantt town, officials said Thursday.
The expert team, comprising of officials of this Haryana district’s administration and technical officers of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Hindustan Petroleum (HP), visited the Government Senior Secondary School and Government Primary School in Ambala Cantt Wednesday to examine the problem of oil spill in the school premises, the state spokesperson said here Thursday.
The two state-run schools at Bakra Market of Ambala Cantt were ordered to be vacated last week after oil began oozing out of their playgrounds.
The schools have nearly 1,500 students, mostly from poor and weaker sections.
A state government spokesperson said: “Technical officers of IOC and HP will submit their detailed report to the administration within this week for finding a permanent solution to the problem of oil spill in the area.”
The team headed by City Magistrate Dinesh Yadav gathered information about the temporary solution possible to prevent any untoward mishap due to the oil emission in the area.
“Safety and security of children is of paramount responsibility of the district administration and we have initiated a joint effort with oil companies in this direction. After we get the report, a permanent solution will be worked out to prevent these oil spills in future,” Yadav said here Thursday.
The technical team of the oil companies confirmed that the emission of oil in the area was due to oil spill over the years and it was not a new thing.
“Due to heavy rains, the water table increases and the spilled oil also comes to the surface level along with water. There is nothing to worry about as it had also happened in the past. We are looking forward for a permanent solution for this,” said an official of the oil company.
Ambala Cantt is around 40 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
