New Delhi, July 30 (IANS) Four members of a family, including two women, Friday alleged they were brutally beaten up by policemen and traffic cops in Delhi. However, police said they were being framed as the women tore their clothes themselves to demonstrate assault.
‘My son Madhur, 21, was intercepted by two traffic policemen near our house in Bhalswa Dairy (in north Delhi) Wednesday. When he refused to pay bribe to them, an argument ensued. They thrashed my son mercilessly and took him to a police station in a police van,’ 48-year-old Siyasharan charged.
‘A neighbour informed us and we rushed to the police station. The traffic cops and the policemen were drunk and beating my son. Even the additional SHO (station house officer) was involved in assaulting,’ he alleged.
‘When we asked them why they were beating my son they started thrashing us. They stripped my wife and daughter also. My wife’s private parts are still bleeding as a cop kicked her,’ he said.
‘When the assistant commissioner of police arrived at 11.30 p.m. we were taken to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for treatment,’ he added.
Siyasharan said the drunk cops were not sent for any check-up.
The incident came to light Friday after Siyasharan approached police.
Denying the charges, Jahangirpuri Assistant Commissioner of Police Jai Bhagwan said: ‘The police was not engaged in assaulting the family. Instead the ladies themselves tore their clothes and showcase that they were assaulted.’
‘Siyasharan’s son attacked both the traffic police and cops in the police station. An FIR (first information report) has been registered against him,’ he added.
