New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS) As part of India’s increased engagement with Africa, Gambian Foreign Minister Momodou Tangara will be arriving in India on a four-day visit Wednesday.

The smallest country in the African mainland, Gambia is one of the oldest democracies in the continent. Interestingly, it is one of the few remaining countries to have diplomatic relations with Taiwan, rather than China.

The foreign minister will be meeting with Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal Wednesday.

Education is an important concern for the Gambian government, which mandates free and compulsory primary education. The country is also linked to Indian universities and other educational institutions in India through the Pan-African e-network’s e-learning component.

Tangara will also be meeting with Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur.
