New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS) Delhi traffic police Friday said a stiff fine of Rs.2,000 would be imposed on people entering the clearly marked Commonwealth Games lanes on city roads from Sep 20. The notification would be published by Sep 20.

Special Commissioner (Traffic) Ajay Chadha said the routes for the movement of Games officials and sportspersons have been identified and traffic police would be deployed on these routes from Sep 20.

‘The athletes would start arriving in the capital from Sep 20. The extreme left lanes of the roads from Commonwealth Games Village to the venues and the airport will be designated as exclusive Games lanes,’ said Chadha.

He said these restrictions would be in place from Sep 20 at night also as most of these athletes would be reaching the capital during that time. The traffic police have advised people to avoid the CWG lanes in general and specifically Safdarjung Road, Kamal Attaturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Siri Fort Road, Choudhary Har Sukh Marg, Purana Quila Road and Mother Teresa Crescent Road.

Chadha said that the Games Organising Committee is yet to decide the schedule of players arrival. But the athletes will start reaching the capital between Sep 20-23. ‘Only the buses carrying the Games officials and athletes would be allowed in the Games lane,’ said Chadha.
