Ghaziabad, June 8 (IANS) The Ghaziabad police said Wednesday they had arrested farmers’ leader Satya Pal Chaudhary for sheltering Manvir Teotia, who is wanted for his role in last month’s Bhatta Parsaul agitation that claimed four lives. Teotia escaped when the police arrived.

Teotia carries a reward of Rs.50,000 for his arrest.

Chaudhary is the leader on whose writ the land acquisition in certain parts of Noida Extension was quashed by the Allahabad High Court.

On Dankaur station house officer Rajiv Kumar’s orders, a police team raided Chaudhary’s house in Chipyana village and arrested him, Rajiv Kumar Singh, circle officer of Ghaziabad police, said. Teotia, who was in the house, managed to escape.

A local court has remanded Chaudhary to 14 days judicial custody, he added.

Chaudhary is also wanted in the case related to the stoppage of water supply to Delhi from the Upper Ganges Canal in Muradnagar by supporters of the Jat Reservation Movement in 2010.

He was involved in blocking trains in Kafoorpur village in Muradabad during the Jat agitation for job quotas and in the burning of buses on the national highway in 2009.
