Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Feb 2 (IANS) A government doctor, who had just got engaged, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence here, police said Wednesday.
Ashish Rajani, 28, posted at the Sitapur district hospital, took the step Tuesday.
‘After his engagement ceremony in Lucknow, Ashish returned Tuesday and joined his duty. We are yet to ascertain what prompted him to take the extreme step,’ police spokesperson Sanjay Verma told reporters here, some 80 km from Lucknow.
‘The incident came to light late Tuesday evening when a doctor of the district hospital went to meet Ashish at his house and found him hanging from the ceiling fan,’ he added.
According to sources in the district hospital, Rajani spoke to his family in Lucknow over the phone in the afternoon. He said he was very upset and wanted to commit suicide.
‘Investigations are on in this regard,’ said Verma.
