Agra, Oct 5 (Inditop.com) Heavy showers lashed Agra Monday, inundating low-lying areas and causing traffic snarls. Tourists too preferred to stay indoors rather than venturing out in the rain.

It has been raining continuously since midnight and traffic on MG Road was badly hit.

Tourists at the Taj Mahal were caught by heavy showers and many others remained confined to their hotel rooms, said Hashmat, a tourist guide.

Farmers were worried as they feared the rain might damage the standing Bajra crop.

“Sunday evening’s light showers were welcome. But the heavy downpour now will damage the standing Bajra crop. Late rains will bring in early winter,” Ravi Singh, a farmer of Baruali, told IANS.

“It began as a trickle but after midnight it’s been a downpour, the heaviest of the season in Mathura, Firozabad, Hathras, Aligarh and I think all the way till Kanpur and Lucknow. The rains are welcome as the deficit this season of nearly 21 percent would be more than made up,” said Kok Singh, a villager.
