Shimla, Sep 26 (IANS) The road to Himachal Pradesh’s picturesque Sangla Valley was reopened Sunday after being closed for six days due to landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the region, an official said.

More than 35 domestic tourists, who were stranded in Sangla village in Kinnaur district, moved to their destinations after the reopening of the Karcham-Sangla road.

‘The road link was reopened for vehicles this (Sunday) afternoon and all the stranded tourists left for their destinations in special buses arranged by the government,’ sub-divisional magistrate Naresh Thakur told IANS.

The government airlifted out 40 tourists, including 24 foreigners, from Sangla village Friday. They were also stranded there since the road link snapped.

The Sangla Valley, which remains cut off from the rest of the country during winter owing to heavy snowfall, is some 275 km from here.
