Lucknow, July 31 (IANS) A massive fire broke out in a plywood factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district Saturday morning, destroying goods worth lakhs of rupees, police said. No casualties were reported.
The blaze engulfed the plywood factory in Jhakarkati area, which houses a series of commercial establishments.
‘Twelve fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire. Though the fire has been controlled, it is yet to be doused completely,’ police inspector Lal Singh Verma told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from here.
‘As the fire came in contact wooden products, it started spreading very fast to the nearby commercial establishments. But it was controlled due to the timely intervention of the fire-fighting officials,’ he added.
‘The fire-fighting team will ascertain the cause of the fire, though it appears that a short circuit in the factory could be responsible,’ said Verma.
Only a few private security guards were present at the site when the fire broke out.
