New Delhi, June 4 (IANS) A major function here Friday to launch the tickets for the Commonwealth Games was shrouded with controversy following the absence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit who said she was not aware of the event.
‘I don’t know. Even I was not told about the event. I am coming to know about it from you (media),’ Dikshit told reporters.
Tickets for the 19th edition of the Commonwealth Games went on sale Friday.
The ticket-launch was considered as a major event in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games being held here in October. The chief minister, who is busy giving the final shape to the beautification of the city’s infrastructure, was an obvious choice to be on the guest-list.
Asked if the act of Commonwealth Games organising committee (CGOC) was insulting, Dikshit said: ‘I don’t call it insulting. It does not make any difference to me. I am doing my duty for the city.’
Meanwhile, an organising committee official told IANS that the Lt. governor and mayor were invited to the function as they are the first citizens of Delhi. ‘However, there was no specific reason for not inviting the chief minister.’
Dikshit was, however, present at an organising committee function in February to release the Commonwealth Games Ecological Code.
