New Delhi, April 10 (Inditop) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday said that India was yet to decide on joining a regional framework proposed by US President Barack Obama in its Afghanistan-Pakistan policy.
“The US is making efforts to involve more and more countries like China, Russia, Iran and India. They want to ensure that all regional countries have a stake in a moderate stable Afghanistan,” Manmohan Singh said during an interaction with members of the Indian Women’s Press Corps at the Hotel Taj Palace.
“They have discussed this matter with us. We have not taken a final view if we will be a part of that process,” the prime minister said.
In his new policy unveiled on Afghanistan-Pakistan region (AfPak) last month, Obama had proposed setting up a contact group comprising influential regional players, including India, Russia, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations, that could help in stablising the violence-torn Afghanistan.
The situation in Pakistan and Afghanistan figured prominently in discussions between Manmohan Singh and Obama in London early this month.
