Ranchi, Jan 12 (IANS) Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda is gearing up to contest the assembly by-poll in Kharsawa constituency as the Election Commission (EC) Wednesday fixed Feb 10 for balloting.

The filing of nomination for the by-poll will begin Jan 17. The results would be declared Feb 17.

Munda’s party colleague and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Mangal Singh Soy resigned his Kharsawa assembly seat in November last year to enable Munda contest the by-poll and be elected to the state assembly.

Munda became the chief minister in September last year and has to get elected to the assembly within six months under the constitutional requirements.

He Tuesday said that the EC should soon take a decision regarding holding the by-poll in Kharsawa.

The All Jharkhand Students Union, a key alliance partner in the Munda government, has decided to support the chief minister in the by-poll.
