Ranchi, Dec 2 (IANS) Jharkhand Police Friday succeeded in reaching a hijacked bus which was in control of Maoists for 36 hours in the state’s Khuti district and recovered the body of the killed driver.
‘Today we brought back the bus and the body of the driver. Maoists had stopped the bus on Wednesday night and killed the bus driver. They let go his assistant,’ police spokesperson R.K. Mallik told IANS.
According to local media report, the bus was hijacked by more than 100 Maoists Wednesday night from Rania jungle of Khuti district, which is 75 Km from Ranchi.
The driver was killed and his assistant was let off after being injured by the rebels.
The family members of the driver went to take his body Thursday but were not allowed to by the Maoists.
Police could not reach the spot on Thursday and suspected that it was a Maoist trap to ambush them, and so they avoided to act promptly.
‘Maoists usually ambush security forces by killing someone. We take preventive measures to avoid the Maoists ambush,’ told a police official involved in anti-Maoists operation.
