Ranchi, Jan 13 (Inditop.com) Thanks to the Supreme Court, Jharkhand can now hold its first panchayat polls.

This follows the apex court’s decision Tuesday to uphold a key provision of the Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act.

According to section 4(g) of PESA Act 1996, the post of heads of panchayat in what are known as scheduled areas will be reserved for tribal people.

The PESA Act was challenged by non-tribals. The high court struck down the provision for reservation but the Supreme Court overturned the decision.
