Midnapore (West Bengal), Jan 7 (IANS) Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Friday termed the killings of seven people in the state’s troubled West Midnapore district as ‘genocide’ and ‘murder of the constitution’.

‘This killing is not only barbaric, ghastly, unconstitutional and undemocratic but it is actually murder of the constitution. It is genocide. There is no law and order in the state,’ said Banerjee while addressing a media meet in this headquarters of West Midnnapore district.

‘We have informed the central government about the incident. Actually we have informed the union home ministry about those armed camps from time to time. Today the fight is not between (ruling) CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) and Trinamool. It is a fight between CPI-M and the people of West Bengal,’ said Banerjee.

Seven people were shot dead and 12 wounded near Lalgarh, the Maoist hub in the district Friday, sparking allegations that the killers were sheltered in a camp set up by the CPI-M. The Marxists denied involvement.
