New Delhi, Jan 4 (IANS) A 24-year-old man was arrested here for making an extortion call, demanding Rs.500,000, to a sitting Congress legislator’s son, said police Friday.
Suresh, who has been carrying a reward of Rs.50,000 declared by Haryana Police, was arrested from south Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave Thursday for making the extortion call to the son of Jaswant Rana, legislator from west Delhi’s Narela.
A case regarding the incident was registered Thursday.
In May 2012, Suresh’s associates had also made several extortion calls to the legislator which a case was registered in Badli police station here. Following investigations, Neeraj Bawana along with Narendra, Rajesh and Parvesh – all residents of Samalkha in Haryana’s Panipat – were arrested.
The legislator had been provided ‘Y’ category security after this incident.
“Even after the arrest of Neeraj Bawana in this case, repeated extortion calls were reportedly received by the complainant. The accused has confessed to have been calling the complainant even after the arrest of other members of the gang,” said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
