Shillong, Sep 27 (IANS) A woman was killed and two were seriously injured Monday in an alleged attack by Bangladeshi nationals at Hat Thymmai village on the southern tip of Meghalaya near the Bangladesh border, officials said.
‘Preliminary reports suggest that the incident was perpetrated by Bangladeshi nationals inside the Indian territory at Hat Thymmai,’ Superintendent of Police, Claudia A Lyngwa told IANS.
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) has lodged a protest with Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) over the incident. The BDR officials have assured to lodge an FIR with the Bangladesh Police.
A Block Development Officer and Sub-Divisional Police Officer has rushed to the spot for information on the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Raphel Malngiang, while the two others who have been rushed to Shillong Civil hospital are Veronica Ryngksai and Aislin Diengdoh.
Hat Thymmai is about 80 km from Shillong, state capital of Meghalaya.
Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh, part of which is porous, hilly and unfenced and prone to frequent infiltration.
