New Delhi, August 18 (IANS) While men consider caste and physical appearance of a prospective bride as the key criteria, women look for a professional and educational background, a survey by a matrimonial site on the ‘preference trends’ of unmarried men and women when looking for their life partners stated Wednesday.

Matrimonial site Jeevansaathi.com in its survey, found that men focus on the family background and physical appearance of the prospective bride while the women consider professional and educational qualification as the key factor in choosing a partner. Physical appearance is the least considered factor for women finding a match online.

Commenting on the findings of the study, Rohit Manghnani, business head of Jeevansathi.com said: ‘In the changing era of arranged marriages it is very astonishing to find that caste and family background still play such an important role’.

According to Manghani, the primary reason for men being particular about the family background would be because of get their parents’ consent. Women on the other hand, I assume, want a secure life thus the professional and educational background is given more importance.

The survey saw participation of around 5,000 Jeevansathi.com members.

For the male respondents, the least considered criteria in a prospective bride were education and profession.

Among women, caste/family background emerged as the second most preferred factor.
