Jodhpur, Oct 31 (IANS) A court here Monday extended till Nov 5 the police remand of Shahabuddin, a suspect in the disappearance of nurse Bhanwari Devi who allegedly figured in a video showing her in a compromising position with sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderana, a lawyer said.

‘The court has extended the police custody upto Nov 5,’ said Shahabuddin’s lawyer Jagmal Chodhary.

Shahabuddin, a resident of Pipad area here and a mechanic by profession, surrendered in a CBI special court Oct 22.

The additional chief judicial magistrate also gave the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) permission to take Shahabuddin, who is alleged to have kidnapped the nurse, to the Jodhpur Central Jail and quiz him in front of two other accused – Sohan Lal Vishnoi and Baldev Jaat alias Balia – for two days.

The CBI is believed to have quizzed some relatives of legislator Malkhan Singh in the case.

‘The CBI Sunday quizzed Malkhan Singh’s brother Parasram Singh. Malkhan was also close to Bhanwari Devi. The agency is likely to quiz Maderana and Malkhan Singh soon,’ said a police officer who did not want to be named.

Maderana was among those named in a first information report (FIR) after Bhanwari Devi remained absent from duty from Aug 25, confined herself to her home for a few days and then vanished without trace Sep 1.

He was sacked as water resources minister by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Oct 16.
