New Delhi, June 19 (IANS) A moderate intensity earthquake hit the Andaman islands early Saturday, weather officials said. No casualties have been reported.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the quake measured 6.0 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was located at 13.4 degree north latitude and 93.0 degree east longitude in the Andaman islands off the Bay of Bengal.
The earthquake occurred at 4.39 a.m. (Indian Standard Time).
Andaman and Nicobar islands are in zone five of seismicity, which is the high-risk zone.
Last week, the Nicobar islands experienced a series of quakes and tremors were felt along the eastern coast.
