New Delhi, July 29 (IANS) Traditional Bengali designs and Mughal-inspired bridal wear – designers Anupama Dayal and Dev & Nil gave a glimpse of their collections to be showcased at the annual three-day wedding extravaganza Bridal Asia next month.

Divya Gurwara, CEO of Bridal Asia presented ‘Bronze Begum’ by Dayal and ‘Naya/Notun’ by designer duo Dev & Nil at DLF Promenade, Vasant Kunj, Wednesday.

”Notun’ is a collection of old Bengali ideas packaged in a new format. We have tried to give a new flavour with our twist to the prevailing traditional richness,’ Kolkata-based Dev explained.

‘We have tried to display the embroidery in our garments not as a heavyweight. We have used Bengali workmanship of thread, beads, kasaps and dabkas with a fresh perspective and a modern touch to it,’ he added.

The bridal collection is a blend of traditional designs with western silhouettes. While the collection saw a range of saris, lehengas and shararas embedded with Swarovski crystals for women, sherwanis were the only option for men.

The colour palette was subtle with a range of white, gold, peach, blue and red.

‘My journey to bridal wear category started when I went to see Mughal jewels in a Singapore museum and they intoxicated me with their beauty and technical finesse. I was in awe of our own history,’ said Dayal, who has made his debut in bridal wear.

Organised with the aim of bringing everything related to weddings under a single roof, one can find designer lehengas to jewellery, wedding planners to honeymoon packages and from lingerie to accessories at Bridal Asia.
