New Delhi, March 3 (IANS) Chief Vigilance Commissioner P.J. Thomas tendered his resignation Thursday after the Supreme Court termed his appointment illegal, Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily announced here Thursday.

‘We are not in any position to say anything now. He has tendered his resignation and the Supreme Court also held his appointment as illegal,’ Moily told reporters outside parliament.

The apex court Thursday struck down the appointment of Thomas as CVC for his alleged involvement in a corruption case, six months after he was appointed to the post.

The court said the appointment made by the high-powered committee, consisting of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj does not exist in law.
