Ghaziabad, Dec 2 (IANS) An airline pilot has been arrested after his wife was found hanging from the ceiling fan of their bedroom here after a quarrel between them, police said Friday, adding a case of dowry death has been slapped on him.

Captain Deep Chand was arrested from his house in Aditya Garden City in Vasundhara under Indirapuram police station of the city, on a complaint by his brother-in-law Surendra Singh.

The pilot’s wife, Kajal, 28, was found hanging in her bedroom Thursday morning. The room was locked from inside.

According to police, Kajal had Wednesday gone to see her nephew in a hospital in Delhi. After her return, she had a quarrel with her husband. An angry Kajal then went into her room and bolted her bedroom from inside.

Deep Chand, meanwhile, informed his parents-in-laws that after quarrelling with him, Kajal has bolted the room and was not opening it despite his repeated shouts. He also informed his elder brother, Ramesh Chand, who lives nearby.

When Kajal did not open the door throughout night, the friends and local residents Thursday morning informed police, who broke open a window and found the woman hanging from the ceiling fan.

Kajal’s brother alleged Deep Chand maintained extra-marital relations and was habituated to alcohol, both of which Kajal had always objected to. He said these were the main reasons for the strife in their marital life, since they were married in early 2009.

‘A case under section 304B (Dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the pilot. He has been arrested and investigation is on. Now the pilot has to prove his innocence in the court of law,’ said the Superintendent of Police (City) J.K. Shahi.
