Bangalore, June 7 (IANS) A gang of four people attacked the occupants of a car in broad day light here Monday and made away with a bag containing Rs.3 million (Rs.30 lakh) being taken to a bank, police said.

The gang blocked the car with their vehicle around 1 p.m. and smashed the window panes before throwing chilli powder at the driver and another occupant. They then escaped with the bag containing the money near Chandra Layout in west Bangalore, about eight km from the city centre, a police spokesperson said.

The cash belonged to a milk producers union and was being taken to be deposited in the Axis Bank near Chandra Layout, the spokesperson said.

No arrests have been made so far.

In the early hours of May 25, thieves had carted away a 300-kg ATM machine, belonging to HDFC bank, loaded with cash from the outskirts of Bangalore.

The machine, which was taken from Anekal, about 30 km from here, was found broken open and burnt near Huskur, several kilometres away the next day.
