Mumbai, Dec 15 (IANS) The Maharashtra legislative assembly Wednesday revoked the suspension of five Shiv Sena members who were suspended Dec 2 for their unruly behaviour in the house, a party official said.

‘We had raised some valid issues and hence it was wrong to suspend our MLAs (member of legislative assembly). We had appealed to the house,’ Shiv Sena legislator Vinod Ghoshalkar told IANS.

Sanjay Rathor, Sharad Patil, Ravindra Waikar, Abhijit Adsul and Ashish Jaiswal were also barred from entering the premises of the state legislature buildings in Nagpur and Mumbai for a year, till the next winter session.

The suspension came in the wake of chaotic scenes in the assembly during its ongoing winter session in Nagpur when the members climbed on the speaker’s podium, grabbed the speaker’s mace and waved it in the air.

‘All we had demanded was adequate compensation for farmers who had suffered huge losses during unseasonal rains over the last two months,’ Ghoshalkar added.

The resolution to suspend the five legislators was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshavardhan Patil and accepted by the house by a voice vote.
