Kolkata, Aug 17 (IANS) A suspected Maoist linkman was arrested Tuesday in West Bengal’s Bankura district, police said.

‘Sukhdeb Hembram was arrested from Sarenga police station area following a tip-off. He is a resident of Keshia village near Goaltore of West Midnapore district and known to be a Maoist sympathiser,’ Bankura Superintendent of Police Pranav Kumar said.

A senior police officer said: ‘Neither arms nor Maoists posters were found from him. Moreover not a single case was registered against him.’

However, Pranav Kumar said: ‘We are carrying out an investigation to see whether he is accused in any case or unlawful activity.’

The ultra Left rebels are active in three western districts of the state – West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
