New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) The government Monday described as ‘constructive’ the formal peace talks it has launched with outlawed group United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).
Home Secretary R.K. Singh, who was addressing a press conference along with Home Minister P. Chidambaram here, said the government had had a ‘constructive discussion’ with the ULFA in the formal talks that began on Oct 25 here.
Singh said the two sides went through some of the demands made by ULFA and that some of them needed further clarification, which they would go over.
‘They are going well,’ he said on the talks itself.
When asked if ULFA would surrender arms now that the talks have begun, Chidambaram said it was one of the ‘general principles’ the government follows when the two sides are at the discussion table.
