Jaipur, July 2 (IANS) Three people were arrested and counterfeit currency with face value of about Rs. 4.75 lakh was recovered from them in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur Monday, police said.
The currency notes are suspected to have been smuggled into India from Bangladesh, they added.
Three men, identified as Aarif, 25,, Rashid, 50, and Rafiq, 30, were arrested from the town, some 150 km from Jaipur.
“We had been gathering clues about a racket of counterfeit currency in the area for the past few days. Acting on tip-offs, we carried out the raids at the house and arrested these three men,” a police official said.
Police seized 948 fake currency notes of Rs.500.
The official said that the seized notes were sent to the Reserve Bank of India’s Jaipur branch for examination.
“We had earlier busted a similar racket from the area about a fortnight ago. We had arrested two men in possession of fake currency with the face value of about Rs. 14 lakh. It had come up that the duo had got the notes from a racket operating out of Bangladesh,” said the officer.
“During preliminary investigation, it has come up that the three men arrested Monday got the currency from the same racket. Further investigation is on,” said the officer.
