Lucknow, July 3 (IANS) Three people were shot dead Tuesday in broad daylight on a highway in Firozabad near Agra while they were on their way to the district court for a hearing, police said.
Ravi, his brother Shashi and Ramesh died on the spot near Madai village in Shikohabad while a fourth man, Pappu, escaped unhurt, they said.
Police said old enmity could be behind the murders.
Firozabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Aparna H.S. told IANS that after the assailants shot the three dead, they also set their vehicle afire, charring two people inside the car.
Ravi along with other four was going to the district court for a hearing when two persons in a jeep swerved before their car and started firing indiscriminately.
When their car stopped, the assailants came close and shot at the passengers of the car again, killing Ravi and Ramesh on the spot.
Shashi, another car occupant, ran for his life but was chased and shot dead near a brick kiln.
Pappu, however, managed to give the assailants a slip.
The assailants then returned and set the car afire, charring the two bodies lying inside.
The assailants then escaped the crime scene.
