New Delhi, July 15 (Inditop.com) With power demand touching a new high this summer, the Delhi government declared Wednesday it would paint roofs white to reflect more heat, starting with its own secretariat.
The plan to build what it called “cool roofs” was finalised at a meeting between Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and officials of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), an official spokesperson said.
“A concept relating to white coloured cool roofs was discussed in the meeting. White cool roof option for Delhi may result in a reduction in roof temperature. This will help in saving electricity as cool roofs will bring down the maximum temperature,” an official statement said.
“A proposal was mooted to start this exercise from the Delhi Secretariat.”
