Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 27 (IANS) Kerala Chief Minister and Left Democratic Front (LDF) leader V.S. Achuthanandan Monday said the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is crumbling and would be beaten hollow in the coming local bodies polls.
‘When the results are out for the local bodies poll, the electorate will hand over a victory for us and the arrogance of the UDF of putting a good show at the last Lok Sabha polls would be over,’ Achuthanandan told media persons here.
The local bodies polls would be held Oct 23 and 25. The results would be declared Oct 27.
He claimed the the UDF was in bad shape.
‘Differences of opinion between the Congress and the allies have already come out, moreover there is infighting in the Congress also with Ramesh Chennithala and a central minister from Kerala giving sleepless nights to Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy for the post of chief minister,’ he said.
The chief minister later identified the central government minister as Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi.
Achuthanandan said a comparison with the performance of the central government and his government clearly shows that the Kerala government is far ahead and hence victory would be theirs.
‘Look at the corruption at the Commonwealth Games, the (2G) spectrum scandal and compare it with our performance where 30 lakh families are being given rice at Rs.2 per kilogram besides health insurance for 40 lakh families.
‘Also the bench mark price for paddy has been raised by us from Rs.7 to Rs.13. Look at the employment opportunities we have created in the IT sector by opening new IT parks, so, all in all, we will do extremely well in the polls,’ he said, adding that the effect could well spill over to the next assembly polls too.
