Agartala, Aug 14 (IANS) Upset with the constant fights between her parents and their failing relationship, a 17-year-old girl immolated herself in Tripura, police here said Saturday.
‘Gauri Tanti, a brilliant student of 12th standard, was deeply upset as her parents regularly quarrelled. The three-member family was affluent and educated too,’ a police spokesman told reporters.
The incident occurred Friday at Malaynagar, about 10 km west of state capital Agartala in western Tripura.
The relatives and neighbours in a conciliation meeting Friday had tried to persuade Gauri’s parents to live in harmony for the interest of their only child.
‘When Gauri found that the meeting failed and her parents remained firm on their respective positions, she left the meeting venue and went to her home and set herself on fire,’ the police official said.
She died while being taken to hospital.
