New Delhi, Aug 22 (Inditop.com) High speed winds and heavy rains Friday uprooted nearly 130 trees across the city, officials said Saturday.
The met department said the wind whipped through the city at 87 km per hour while 74.4 mm of rainfall was recorded.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has received complaints of 118 trees falling down while a New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) official said fewer than 10 trees got uprooted in the area under its jurisdiction.
“During the storm and rain last evening, 118 trees fell,” a traffic police official citing MCD data told IANS.
The NDMC received over 50 complaints of tree branches falling in their area.
“Last evening, we received 54 complaints regarding falling of tree branches in the NDMC area. As far as tree uprooting is concerned, the number is less than 10,” NDMC spokesperson Anand Tiwari said.
Officials of the civic authorities said they were working to clear the roads where trees were uprooted.
“Our workers were on their toes throughout the evening responding to these complaints,” another NDMC official claimed.
