Jammu, Nov 25 (IANS) A massive weeklong yagna, fire ritual, to pay tribute to victims of terrorism all across the country began here Thursday.
Special prayers will be offered at ‘Sarv Dharma Maitri Mahayagya’, or all-religion friendship mahayagna, which began on the banks of river Tawi.
The ritual began with the reciting of verses of holy books of all religions — Bhagavad Gita, Quran, Guru Granth Sahib and the Bible.
Hundreds of people from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh gathered at the opening ceremony.
‘The purpose is to showcase the beauty of mutual brotherhood of people of all faiths in India and how they have been facing the threat of terrorism with unity of minds and hearts,’ Yogi Bal Yogeshwar, the main organiser of the yagna, told reporters.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has made special arrangements to provide facilities to those visiting the place.
‘It’s our endeavour that peace return to the whole state of Jammu and Kashmir and we join the prayers for that,’ said Minister of State for Power Shabir Ahmad Khan.
