Agartala, July 29 (Inditop.com) A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted raids at the Tripura University, a central institute, here following complaints of financial irregularities, an official said Wednesday.
“A CBI team led by deputy superintendent of police Biswajit Das conducted raids and interrogated university officials Tuesday and Wednesday following complaints of financial irregularities,” a university official told reporters on condition of anonymity.
The official was unable to disclose the nature and degree of irregularities besides other details of the probe.
Tripura University vice-chancellor Arunoday Saha told IANS: “I am in the complete dark about the CBI inquiry and raids. Nobody from CBI till late afternoon told me anything or questioned me.”
The Tripura government and state police are also unaware about the purpose of CBI raids.
“We have heard about the CBI raids, but officially not informed about the investigation,” deputy inspector general of police (headquarters) Nepal Das told Inditop.
The university, set up in 1986, was run by the state government until 2007 when it became a central university.
A section of the local media has reported the alleged financial irregularities in the university.
