Shillong, Jan 22 (IANS) At least ten rebels of the A’chik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) surrendered in Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills district on Friday, police said.
“They surrendered following pressure due to the ongoing counter-insurgency operations and public pressure against the militants activities Ain Garo Hills region,” Meghalaya police chief Rajiv Mehta, said.
Saljatchi Marak, a senior member of the group, led the rebels to surrender before Deputy Inspector General of Police (Western Range) S.S.Kynjing at Samgrak village in the presence of more than 500 people.
