Gandhinagar, April 23 (Inditop) Suresh Patel of the Congress, who is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Gandhinagar in Gujarat against Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) veteran L.K. Advani, faces police action for violating the model code of conduct.
The State Electoral Office here Thursday ordered filing a first information report (FIR) against Patel for opening an election campaign office at Manmandir Society that is within 200 metres of the Gayatri school, a designated polling booth, in Ranip locality of Ahmedabad, a poll official said.
The Ahmedabad district collector has already asked Patel, a sitting legislator, to immediately close the campaign office.
The official said an FIR was also being filed against Bholabhai Patel, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate from Ahmedabad (East), for opening a poll campaign office within 200 metres of a polling booth in Vatva locality of Ahmedabad.
The NCP candidate’s campaign office had already been closed down after a complaint was filed by the Vatva nodal officer Thursday.
