Kolkata, July 1 (IANS) A rights group Tuesday demanded the arrest of Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Paul whose rape remark has triggered outrage countrywide.

Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) Tuesday approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking his arrest.
Paul, an actor-turned-politician who represents Krishnanagar in West Bengal’s Nadia district, has been caught in video warning Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activists that he won’t “spare them and destroy their entire clan” and “unleash his boys to rape their women”.
“His speech is nothing but criminal intimidation and incitement of crime. His speech is below the dignity of people of Bengal. We urge you to take cognisance of his speech and order his arrest.
“This is absolutely necessary to prevent recurrence of any hate speech violating human rights of the citizens,” reads the complaint letter signed by Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) secretary Ranjit Sur.
Outrage has been growing against Paul for his remarks with demands for his immediate arrest.
The Trinamool has sought an explanation from him and Paul’s wife Nandini has apologised for his remarks.
