New Delhi, Jan 24 (Inditop.com) The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday termed as “illogical and laughable” the remarks of Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar defending rising food prices.
“It is highly surprising… Sharad Pawar has made this illogical and laughable statement that he was ready to step down if anybody guaranteed food prices can be controlled even after insufficient monsoon rains,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a statement.
He said the minister was shrugging off his responsibilities and demanded his ouster.
“This is irresponsible and exposes a false promise of the United Progressive Alliance government,” Prasad said.
He referred to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s pre-poll promise that if the Congress forms the government again then inflation would be reined in within 100 days.
He said the government of the so-called ‘aam aadmi’ (common people) is “doing good to hoarders”.
“And the government is playing a crude joke with the plight of common people who are suffering because of the inflation,” the BJP leader said.
Demanding Pawar’s ouster, Prasad alleged that the rising food prices were a pointer to huge scams in the ministry.
“The prime minister should dismiss him (Pawar) and let the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe these scams,” he said.
