New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS) The Congress Monday termed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) allegation about theft of its online identity as ‘juvenile and bankrupt’, and denied having received any notice from the opposition party.
‘We reject the BJP allegation with contempt. We have not received any notice. This too is a publicity stunt,’ Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said here.
She, however, added that if the party gets a notice, it will give a suitable reply.
Natarajan said the BJP accusation was based on ‘patently false allegations’ and ‘if the opposition party has any issues about its identity, it should make a complain to cyber crime unit.’
‘Our inquiries reveal that bjp.com appears to be domain of a corporate entity called Bharat Journals and Publishers or Bharat Janata Prakashan, which existed long before the BJP had its own website. So complaint, if any, should be lodged by this entity,’ she said.
She said the BJP can be in no way concerned with where the website of Bharat Journals and Publishers can be redirected.
Natarajan said the Congress was ‘by no stretch of imagination’ interested in acquiring online identity of the BJP.
BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman Sunday had said the party had sent legal notice to the Congress over ‘petty theft’ of its online identity.
She said that a portal with the party’s acronym and no clear ownership identity was diverting users to the Congress website.
The BJP spokesperson said the notice was delivered at the Congress office Sep 27.
She said a website, http://www.bjp.com, was automatically diverting users to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) website.
Answering queries about the BJP accusation, Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who also heads the party’s legal department, had said that no legal notice had been brought to his attention. He said it was laughable to suggest that Congress should seek to copy the BJP website.
