New Delhi, Jan 18 (IANS) The Supreme Court Tuesday asked whether it could exclude Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh from the proposed independent committee to monitor the implementation of the relief package for the displaced tribals of Dantewada and Bijapur districts.
The apex court bench of Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy and Justice S.S. Nijjar said: ‘Given the constitutional scheme of things, can the court give direction of this nature to the chief minister?’
The court added that ‘it would result in serious, disastrous consequences’.
The court’s observation came in the course of the hearing of a petition by Delhi University professor Nandini Sundar seeking the disbanding of vigilante group Salwa Judum, evacuation of schools and ashrams occupied by the security forces, and time-bound rehabilitation of tribals who fled their villages after being caught in the crossfire between Maoists and security forces.
