Gandhinagar, July 13 (Inditop.com) The opposition Congress Monday walked out of the Gujarat assembly during question hour, protesting the illicit liquor tragedy in Ahmedabad that has claimed at least 136 lives so far.

Congress members, led by Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil, decided to stage a walkout as soon as question hour began. They also organised a sit-in protest outside Speaker Ashok Bhatt’s chamber an hour before the session began.

Gohil said Congress members were not being allowed to speak on the liquor deaths during the question hour.

“Since we are not being allowed to talk on the issue of the hooch tragedy in the house, the members organised a sit-in in front of the Gujarat assembly speaker to continue our protest.”

Many Congress members were suspended by the speaker twice last week for disrupting the proceedings of the house.

The liquor tragedy came to light in the eastern part of Ahmedabad, some 35 km from the capital Tuesday, and has claimed 136 lives, most of them labourers. They died after drinking the illegally brewed alcohol.
