Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 12 (Inditop.com) Veteran Congress leader and former Kerala chief minister K. Karunakaran was admitted to a hospital here Thursday after he complained of breathlessness and fever. Doctors said his condition was serious when he was admitted.

“Now after three hours he has started responding to medicines and his condition is improving. When he was admitted his heart rate was weak, his blood pressure had dropped. In the first two hours his condition gave us a lot of anxious moments. A team of doctors is attending on him,” a hospital spokesperson said.

Karunakaran, who turned 91 in June, is still in the intensive care unit.

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan visited the veteran at the hospital, while Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan is expected to pay a visit soon.

“He is improving. If necessary, we are prepared to bring expert doctors from anywhere,” Balakrishnan said.

State Congress president Ramesh Chennithala, who is in Delhi, has cut short his visit and is returning here, party sources said.
