New Delhi, May 16 (Inditop) In a dream run, the Congress was poised to win 204 Lok Sabha seats, having been declared victors in 14 constituencies and leading in 190 others Saturday, according to official figures.
This is far more than its score in the 2004 general elections when it won 145 seats in the 545-member Lok Sabha and got into a post-poll alliance with other parties to form the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and run the government at the centre for five years.
The BJP, which was hoping to come to power this time, had won 12 seats by 2 p.m. and was leading in 104 seats — far less than its 2004 individual tally of 138 seats.
In comparison, the Left parties, which won 59 seats in 2004, were leading in only 23 seats this time.
