New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) The Congress Wednesday said it will contest all the 403 seats in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls and will announce its candidates a year in advance.
‘We will contest all the assembly seats in the state. The bulk of the candidates will be announced a year in advance,’ Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said here.
Singh, who is the party’s incharge of Uttar Pradesh, said that process of selecting candidates has already begun and observers will submit their reports for each of the 403 assembly seats.
The Congress has 20 legislators in the assembly and the party is striving to regain its base in the state. The Congress did surprisingly well in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections winning 21 of the 80 seats.
Party leaders said that early declaration of candidates will give them more time to prepare for the polls.
