New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) The Congress will oppose in the budget session of parliament the bill meant to replace an ordinance brought by the Narendra Modi government for land acquisition, a senior party leader said here Wednesday.

The leader, requesting anonymity, said the party was opposed to the ordinance earlier brought by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government which had “diluted” the original Bill.
“We will strongly oppose the Bill. We are against amendments brought to the original law that was passed during the UPA government,” the leader added.
The Modi government approved an ordinance in December to amend the Land Acquisition Act. The ordinance had relaxed the requirements of consent and social impact assessment survey for projects pertaining to five areas, including defence.
