Kolkata, Oct 13 (Inditop.com) West Bengal’s ruling Left Front (LF) Tuesday fielded late Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Subhas Chakraborty’s widow on the Belgachia-East seat against Trinamool Congress candidate Sujit Bose, once considered Chakraborty’s close aide, for the by-polls Nov 7
The LF finalised its candidate list for the by-polls in 10 state assembly seats with Chakraborty’s widow, Ramala Bhattacharya Chakraborty, contesting in place of her late husband. Chakraborty, former state transport minister, won in Belgachia East assembly seat in North 24-Parganas district during the 2006 assembly elections.
“We’ve decided our candidates for the coming by-poll in 10 assembly seats. The LF has nominated one each Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Forward Bloc (FB) and Democratic Socialist Party (DSP) candidate from Kalchini, Goalpokhor and Egra, respectively,” state LF chairman Biman Bose told a press conference here.
“In seven other seats, the LF has nominated CPI-M candidates,” he added.
He said Student Federation of India (SFI) state president Kaustav Chatterjee had also been fielded in Kolkata’s Alipur assembly seat.
“As always, this time we’ve also nominated three new candidates in the coming assembly by-polls. Kaustav Chatterjee, FB candidate Ali Imran Ramj from Goalpokhor and Mohammad Esaruddin Mondal from Malda’s Sujapur seat will be three new faces of the LF in the elections,” Bose said.
He said the LF had also decided to take up a state-wide campaign programme to protest the sky-rocketing price of essential commodities.
“We’ve suggested to the state government to convene a core committee meeting on this issue to take necessary steps for price control,” he said.
