Kolkata, Sep 19 (Inditop.com) Hundreds of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activists Saturday clashed with supporters of the opposition Trinamool Congress here over the issue of setting up their party’s book stalls at a Durga puja pandal, triggering tension in the area.
Agitated activists of both parties also staged a three-hour-long road blockade at the APC Bose Road and Sukia Street crossing – considered one of the major arteries in the northern part of Kolkata.
“The road blockade continued for nearly three hours disrupting traffic movement in the northern part of the city. Later, the situation was brought under control after police intervention,” a police official said.
“No one has been injured in the clash. The matter was resolved peacefully though initially there was some tension in the area,” he said.
According to sources, the incident took place as both the rival political forces demanded the same space to set up a temporary bookstall at Rammohan Sarani Durga puja pandal (marquee) premises.
