Agartala, Aug 5 (IANS) Activists of the youth and students wings of Tripura’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Thursday began a week-long protest here against corruption in the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC).
The activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Students Federation of India (SFI) undertook the sit-in at around 60 places across the state.
‘Thousands of crores of public money were drained off for individual interest in CWG-related work payments, contracts and leasing of sports equipment among others,’ DYFI Tripura unit secretary Amal Chakraborty told reporters.
‘Despite the authentic proof and evidence, the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is yet to take any steps to curb the enormous corruption.’
The DYFI and SFI would continue the agitation for the next one week, he said.
